Connecting a bank
Connecting a bank is optional. For now it is open to a small group of testers while we work to bring it to everyone; when it opens, it will be part of Nami Pro. Nami works from purchases you log with Tap to Log or Add a purchase and from statements you upload. The connection is made through TrueLayer, the open banking provider authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority; you choose your bank and log in at your bank's own app or website, so Nami never sees your banking password. The access Nami asks for is read-only: it can read your accounts, balances, cards and transactions, and it cannot make a payment or move money. You start a connection from the + on Net Wealth.
- If a connection says "Needs reconnecting": go to Profile, Connected banks, Reconnect. Reconnect is not Refresh: Refresh now asks your bank for today's balances under the permission you already gave, while Reconnect walks the whole consent again. Reconnect is also what to use when a card or your transactions never appear, because the permissions are fixed at the moment you authorise them and only a new consent can widen them.
- If a connection says "Paused": your free trial ended without a subscription, or your subscription lapsed. Nami has stopped reading from that bank, and everything it already brought is still there to read. Tap Reconnect with Pro in Connected banks to see the plans. Once you subscribe, the bank picks up again without logging in at your bank, as long as the consent you gave your bank has not expired; if it has, Nami asks you to reconnect.
- To hide an account, and to get it back: swipe the account's card on Net Wealth and choose Hide this account. It stays off Net Wealth until you show it again, and the bank stays connected throughout. Bring it back from Profile, Connected banks, Hidden accounts, Show.
- To disconnect: Profile, Connected banks, Disconnect. That removes the whole connection from Nami: its accounts, its balances and the tokens behind it, so nothing further can be fetched from your bank. Transactions already synced stay in your account, and so does your Net Wealth history up to that day. Nami does not cancel the consent you gave, so it stands at TrueLayer and your bank until it expires; withdraw it at your bank if you want it gone at both ends.
Statements
You can upload a PDF or CSV bank statement instead of connecting a bank, or as well as. Statement uploads are off until you turn them on, at Profile, Statements, Statement uploads. If you had uploaded statements before Nami 2.0 and have no bank connected, they stay on for you. If you turn uploads on while a bank is connected, Nami warns you first: a statement for an account the bank is already feeding counts that spending twice. A free account can have one statement read a month, and Pro up to fifty.
Nothing is sent until you have agreed to AI processing. The statement is read by Claude, made by Anthropic, through our own server, and the file goes as it is, so whatever is printed on it, such as your name or an account number, goes with it.
Tap to Log
Tap to Log puts a card purchase on today's figure the moment you pay. It is free, and it is off until you set it up. Nami cannot see a purchase on its own: you build a Shortcuts automation once, on the trigger called Wallet (Any Card on some versions of iOS), and each time you pay with a card in Apple Wallet using Apple Pay, the automation hands Nami the amount and the shop. Nami does not read your card or Apple Pay, and it holds no Wallet or Apple Pay permission. That is also why Tap to Log needs a card in Wallet on your phone: without one, the automation has nothing to run on.
The guide is at Profile, Shortcuts, Tap to Log: six steps, and the switch that has to be on for a purchase to be logged. A purchase logged this way counts towards today, your month and your budget at once, and Nami keeps it in your account the next time you open the app. If you have a bank connected, it stays on your phone instead, marked not confirmed yet, until your bank's own copy arrives; if none arrives within three days, Nami takes it out and tells you. A test purchase goes at midnight. Recent runs, on the same screen, lists every run of the automation and what happened to it.
Income and shifts
Nami reads your shifts from one calendar on your phone. Set it up from Income, Set up your employer, which asks for the calendar, the words your shift titles start with, your rate and unpaid break rule, and your pay cycle. One employer is free; Pro tracks up to four.
The calendar on your phone is read on your phone, and the titles of its events never leave it. What is saved to your account is your employer's setup and, for each shift you have worked, its times, hours and pay. While the Shifts and earnings switch in Profile, Notifications is on, as it is unless you turn it off, Nami also files the start and end times of your coming shifts so the shift card can start on time with the app closed, and they are deleted a day after each shift ends. Shift times go to Anthropic only when you ask Nami about your pay. The privacy policy sets all of this out in full.
If your first employer's calendar is one your phone subscribes to from a published link, Income offers a Rota feed row for that employer: paste the feed's link and Nami can tell you the moment your rota changes, even when the app has been closed for days. Our server then reads the feed itself about every five minutes, so everything in it, titles included, passes through our server; it picks out your shifts by the words their titles start with and keeps only the link and their start and end times, never their titles.
If a figure differs from your rota app, it is almost always one of two things. Nami reads the times on the rostered calendar event (start to end, less your unpaid break), not the hours written into the event's notes and not the time you actually clocked. And if the hours look right but the total does not, check the pay cycle rule: work in the back half of a month is often paid at the end of the following one, and the gap is usually the cutoff rather than the hours.
Budgets and categories
The monthly budget is free for everyone. Set it from Profile, Budgeting, Monthly budget. One category spending limit is free as well; Pro sets a limit on every category you spend in. A limit you have already set stays editable and removable on any plan.
Your categories live in Profile, Budgeting, Categories: free includes one of your own, and Pro includes more. Category rules, in the same section, is where a merchant you have recategorised is remembered, so the next transaction from them lands in the right place on its own.
Ask Nami
Ask Nami answers questions about your own money from your own figures. A free account can ask three questions a day; Pro can ask fifty, answered by Nami's best model. The composer shows how many questions you have left today, and at the limit it says so.
The first time you ask, a card in the chat names Claude and Anthropic and lists what is and is not sent. Nothing is sent until you tap Agree and ask. Your chats stay on your phone. Anything you ask Nami to remember is kept with your account; see and delete it at Profile, Privacy & data, Nami remembers, where Forget everything clears the lot.
Nami Pro
Your income from one employer, Net Wealth with the accounts you add yourself, the monthly budget, one category limit, one category of your own, the morning brief, the Lock Screen cards, Tap to Log, three Ask Nami questions a day and one statement a month are free for everyone. Pro adds Ask Nami at fifty questions a day on Nami's best model, the morning brief written by that model, a limit on every category, more categories of your own, up to four employers, merchant renaming that Nami remembers, the savings projector, and up to fifty statements a month. Open banking is coming soon, and when it opens it will be part of Pro, along with your pay cycle learned from your bank and live bank balances in Net Wealth.
New subscribers can start with a free trial. The paywall states its length and the price that follows before you commit, and a subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Pro, Profile, Subscription, Manage subscription opens the same place. If you have paid before and the app has not caught up (a reinstall, or a new device), use Restore purchases in Profile, Subscription, or Restore purchase in the menu at the top right of the plans page, the last page of the Pro screen.
Notifications
Everything Nami can send is in Profile, Notifications: a morning brief, an evening sum-up of what you spent, budget alerts, a payday eve nudge, a payslip reminder on payday, your pay landing, your pay the moment a shift ends, repayment reminders, and Today's spend on your Lock Screen. Each has its own switch, so you can keep one and turn the rest off. If notifications for Nami are switched off in iOS Settings, nothing on that screen can be delivered; it says so at the top and links you there.
- The morning brief is free for everyone. It arrives at the time you choose (08:00 unless you change it), and Nami writes it within about fifteen minutes of that time. It is the one Time Sensitive notification Nami sends; if Time Sensitive is off for Nami in iOS Settings, the brief waits for your next notification summary.
- Today's spend on your Lock Screen shows what you have spent today, with what is left of your monthly budget, from your morning brief until 2am. It keeps up while the app is closed. It is on unless you turn it off, with its own switch in Profile, Notifications.
- The shift card comes from your rota. When a shift begins, a card on your Lock Screen counts up what it is paying you, and its figure steps on every five minutes, even with the app closed. The pay is worked out on your phone. It follows the Shifts and earnings switch in Profile, Notifications.
Your data
What Nami collects, where it goes and why is set out in full in our privacy policy.
To delete your account and the data Nami holds against it, open Profile, Privacy & data, Delete account and confirm. That deletes your account and, with it, your transactions, your uploaded statements, your budgets, category limits and rules, your income and shifts, what Nami remembers, and any bank connection along with the tokens behind it. It cannot be undone, and it does not cancel a subscription, so cancel that first in the Settings app. If you would rather clear your statements and keep your account, use Delete all statements in the same section; that removes the uploads and their transactions and leaves your account and settings as they are. The same section is where you can re-read the AI processing disclosure and turn it off or on.
Do all three while you are online. If Delete account does not finish, Nami tells you: if we turned it down or did not answer, you stay signed in with nothing on your phone changed and can try again; if your sign in had ended, Nami signs you out so you can sign in and check. Nami does not yet say when Delete all statements or a change to AI processing fails to reach us, so if a statement comes back the next time you open Nami, or AI processing seems unchanged, do it again, or write to us and we will do it for you. Or open Profile, Help in the app, where Check my setup looks for the usual causes and Ask Nami how to answers questions about using Nami.
Nami does not currently offer a data export.
Contact
Write to contact@meliolabs.io. To save a round trip, tell us which device you are on and which version of iOS it is running, then the screen you were on, what you expected, and what happened instead. If it is about a bank connection, name the bank; if it is about a statement, say which bank produced the file and whether it was a PDF or a CSV.
